Once Gabe finally arrives at the Titan Mines exit, he is fired upon by his superior officer, Victor Bartlett, who is in a gunship. During this, he receives a transmission from Director Tiedemann ordering all surviving security teams to scrub the facility and eliminate all key subjects. After his emergency warning is transferred, Gabe makes his way through the mines, passing through many areas that will be visited by Isaac Clarke. Rin's sacrifice to save Nolan was ultimately in vain as in Dead Space 2, Isaac Clarke was forced to kill Stross in self defense. After Gabe's first encounter with the Necromorph outbreak in the Titan Mines and the death of the majority of his patrol squad, Gabe is able to contact Lexine to warn her of the outbreak. Because Rin saved Nolan Stross, she inadvertently contributed to the destruction of the O'Bannon, the massacre of its crew and the death of Nolan's family when the Red Marker fragment caused Nolan to hallucinate and see his family as Necromorphs. She died shortly after saving Nolan Stross from falling into the lava which she fell into when the ground that she stood on broke apart. She attempted to calm Kuttner down before his psychotic breakdown which led to the death of Noah Pawling. She was the first to find Nickolas Kuttner after he found a shard of the Marker.

Rin was part of the survey team that landed on Aegis VII to look for the fragments of the Marker and during the debriefing in Kuttner's flashback, it was her who mentioned Isaac Clarke. In actuality, she was sent to Aegis VII to look for the pieces of the Red Marker. Rin was supposedly a surveyor serving on the USG O'Bannon.
